Can you rap over someone else's beat?

Your verse is yours. The beat underneath it usually is not. Whoever made the instrumental holds the rights to it, and recording over it does not transfer any of them to you. That stays true whether you found the beat on a producer’s page, downloaded it from a pack, or pulled it off a video.

This is why a track can sit up for months and then disappear. Nothing about posting it made it yours; it just had not been noticed yet.

“Free” almost never means “no terms”

A beat offered at no cost still arrives with conditions attached, and they are rarely the ones people assume. Credit requirements, limits on where it can be posted, and a right for the producer to withdraw it later are all normal. The word free describes the download, not the rights.

Reading the terms is the honest advice, and most people do not — because the terms live in a description box under a beat they have already recorded over.

What changes when the instrumental is made for you

On slapz you describe the beat you want and slapz composes the instrumental. It is original music, not a sample lifted off somebody else’s record, and it is not an imitation of a named artist. There is no existing recording underneath your vocal, so there is nothing sitting there for anyone to pull down later.

That is the whole difference. It is not that slapz found you a safer beat. It is that the beat did not exist until you asked for it.

What you get

What you record over it is yours to post and to keep. slapz takes a limited license to host, process and display your content so the features work, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
